Desert Rain

“Thunderstorm forecast in Borrego Springs, CA for the next two days”, according to Weather Underground at that time. An initial wall of dust swept the valley, and then came rain! Everything in the arid desert came alive, as if somebody threw an invisible “On” switch. We saw a family of quails scurrying across the wash. Woodpeckers appeared on a nearby tree. The smell of sand and creosote permeated the air. A rainbow appeared, draped across the mountains in the distance. We ran outside and felt the warm rain on our faces.

California Dreamin’

Saw bonfires blazing on the beach in Oceanside after leaving our hotel and watched the orange ball of fire set at the pier. We’re traveling light and soaking up the sights and sounds of the sea. A lovely lady saw us hunting for a parking spot by the ocean in vain. She said, “I’m leaving, but I still have half an hour left in the meter. You’re welcome to use it. Please enjoy the beach. :)”
